school districts:
- Educational Materials and
Services: K-12 Instructional Materials and Activities
correlated to California content standards in science, math, language
and arts will be provided in a written format to all participating
schools. A variety of program materials will be made available, with
project-based learning activities directed to all grade levels. These
materials, provided from the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green
Schools instructional resources binder, will include binders and
CD-ROMs with sample lesson plans, books and interactive CD-ROMS. The

Integrated Waste Management Board, California State and Consumer
Affairs’ Flex Your Power Energy Challenge, and much more.
- Hands-On Tools: Tool
Kits with devices commonly used by energy professionals will be
provided to students at elementary and middle/high school level. These
kits will allow students to identify potential energy conservation
opportunities, collect data analyze results and prepare recommendations
for improving the efficiency of the operation of their school buildings.
- Project-Based Learning Ideas and
Resources: Teacher’s Guides and outlines of student
projects will be provided for organizing activities centered on water,
waste and energy conservation for students at the middle and high
school level. An example of such activities is a hands-on energy audit
conducted by the students.
- Films, Assemblies, Slide Shows
and More: A collection of free communication media that will
provide context and raise awareness of energy and sustainability issues
will be used to inspire students, parents and school staff.
- Additional Reading Materials: Schools

younger students, and an energy-related non-fiction library that will
supplement science activities for older students.

will have the opportunity to attend an 8-part course professionally
designed for elementary teachers on the science of energy. The course
is designed to help non-science majors understand and present energy
concepts to students. Participants will receive graduate level credit
or CEUs, and benefit from new ideas for using energy as an integrating
theme in all instructional areas.
- Interactive
Mobile Energy Lab with Activities for Students and Parents: Participating
schools will be
provided access to Mobile Energy
Efficiency Labs, a practical educational tool that informs and
