We
designed the
Mobile Energy Lab with the
interest of students in mind. In designing them, we injected
many
“fun” elements to the
construction. Children
are
competitive by nature and they have the tendency to derive pleasure
from competing with other children, and it is this characteristic that
we want to draw out of the students so that we are able to retain their
interest.
It is
this subtle yet unique approach that
made Mobile Energy Lab very successful and popular with school children
when we used it for our previous program.
As a
testament to the effectiveness of these
labs, although the School Energy Efficiency Program was been completed
in December 2004, many school districts are still using the mobile labs
today. A number of sets were given away to County Offices of Education
and
School Districts, and the Southern California Edison
AGTAC
Center in Tulare also has a set on display.
The
Mobile Energy Laboratories come with a
Student Activities Handbook and a Teacher’s Guide that have
been
correlated to the California Science Content Standards. In
addition, we also select supplemental educational materials to
be
handed out to students at the classroom session.
Whenever
possible, the supplemental materials will also be correlated to the
Content
Standards.
